Memorial Weekend 2016

Memorial weekend was a day and a half of beautiful warm sunny weather and a day and a half of nice steady rainy weather.  Time for swimming and canoeing - time for indoor games and reading.  Grandma and Grandpa B. had planned the meals and readied the cottage.  Peter, Jessica, James(almost 9) and Naomi (almost 5) came Saturday early afternoon and left on Monday late afternoon in the rain!  We saw eagle, dolphins, two hummingbirds, blue heron and a new bird -- brown creeper.
It was a wonderful relaxing fun weekend.

bird big and little

"The eagle" showed up about three times, landing on the pine branch / fork. One breakfast was fresh fish. In addition, the blue heron - also the much smaller green (has some red coloring) heron. Most fun, the tiny bird at the decaying and split open wild cherry. There are actually two (mates), very small - act similar to a nuthatch. The summer hummingbirds not yet arrived. One comes briefly to the sugar water feeder, then swiftly back to the tall sweet gum tree in the sanctuary strip of wild growth. We just returned from a full week at the Perch.

the stipple ceiling

When I mentioned Elizabeth S. going to clean on Tuesday could examine the ceiling (reported splitting open) and evaluate need to repair (my concern is that the roof may be the actual problem), spouse reported "Oh, Del has fixed that already" (reported by Cricket C.)

Gwynn's Island papers 14 pages

This document is available to family members. Fourteen pages show mostly the first decade, beginning 1957 and up through 1966. After that, the next decade and then the third decade (1980's) essentially up through that year when Chee-Chee, age 82, turned over management to daughter Beth and son-in-love Bob, two years after the death of Grandpa Doc (Pirkle).
